AltruWood is a distributor of FSC certified and reclaimed wood products. We specialize in reclaimed lumber and Forest Stewardship Council (FSC) certified wood products harvested from a responsible source. We are dedicated to being the most reliable supplier of green building products in North America. Check out our website, DougFirFlooring.com, to see our selection of clear vertical and mixed grain Douglas fir. It is our goal to provide our customers an easy and efficient way to purchase Douglas Fir Flooring, fir trim, and rough lumber.

AltruWood focuses on delivering responsible lumber products to the building industry. Headquartered in Portland, Oregon and founded in 2004, AltruWood quickly developed a strong reputation for high quality reclaimed and antique beams, timbers, and reclaimed flooring with a strong national distribution network. First FSC® certified in 2004 through SGS, our goals to distribute FSC® certified flooring, millwork, and timbers took a backseat to the high demand for reclaimed timbers. In 2006, AltruWood made the strategic decision to invest in developing a stronger distribution network and procurement strategy of FSC® certified materials with the goal of servicing the green building industry and the emerging LEED FOR HOMES program.

Which Wood is Best for Flooring? Decisions, decisions. From deep red to greyish white, janka hardness of 1360 to 2820, there's lots to consider when selecting flooring. Are you willing to sacrifice harness for aesthetics? What color fits into your decorating scheme? Reclaimed wood has made its mark on Portland home dcor. From our headquarters, we love seeing the varied reclaimed wood projects bring created in Portland and beyond. Here are our favorites from Houzz this month. Every purchasing experience comes with choices.

AltruWood's premium western red cedar shakes are the ultimate finishing touch on your home, business, or weekend project. The natural variations in color that are found in cedar allows for a unique mix of chocolate browns and reddish tones to give it that eye catching appearance. Due to the abundance of tannins and oils found in western red cedar, you can be assured your masterpiece will stand the test of time. Because cedar shakes are traditionally hand split, the pieces are of slightly varying and irregular sizes, giving it its charming and classic look.

Douglas fir flooring is a timeless floor that is and has been the de facto choice of craftsmen bungalows up and down the west coast. Unique in its versatility, its use in classic architecture makes it perfect for period and historic renovations and its clean, tight-growth vertical lines add warmth and elegance to the modern home. Our customers cherish the AltruWood Reclaimed Clear Vertical Grain (CVG) Douglas Fir Flooring due to the fact that the tight growth rings are not able to be replicated in today's fast-harvested product.

AltruWood sells and distributes responsibly harvested lumber certified by the Forest Stewardship Council (FSC). We have been selling FSC lumber since 2004 with a chain-of-custody certification obtained through certifying body SGS. Using FSC certified lumber is key for builders seeking Leadership in Energy and Environmental Design (LEED) certification for their project as required of the U.S. Green Building Council (USGBC). Other buyers choose FSC material simply out of a desire to be eco-conscious.
