In 1939, Robert was working for Loeb's Department Store as blinds and drapery installer. While doing installs, customers would ask about who could do painting and wallpaper hanging. He would then start doing those jobs on the side. He then became busy enough with the side work, so in 1940, he started up Robert L Butz Painting and Decorating. Ed has been a lifelong resident of Lafayette graduating from Central Catholic High School in 1969. While in high school, he began his painting career working for his father, Robert.
