Geothermal is a HVAC system that uses the energy produced and stored by the earth to heat and cool your home. In simple terms, it works similar to your common household refrigerator. The refrigerator produces both cold (for the inside) and heat (out the back side) on a constant basis by compressing Freon. Geothermal works in the same way, but uses an alcohol based solution, to keep from freezing, that exchanges energy with the surrounding soil in the earth to maintain a constant temperature. The system then either directs its heat production to your house and cool energy into the earth.
