Project Home

For 48 years, Project Home's mission has been to improve the quality and affordability of housing for low-to-moderate income residents in Dane and Green County, WI. We perform home repairs, accessibility modifications & energy improvements to make homes healthier, safer and to ease the financial burden of high energy bills for people who are struggling financially. The work of our staff, sponsors, donors and volunteers is an investment in homes, neighborhoods, communities and people.

In addition to maintaining trained and experienced field staff, Project Home utilizes local vendors and contractors in the fulfillment of our public programs as well as for many of our for-profit Optimus projects. We have regular need for professional HVAC, electrical, plumbing, and other general and specialty contractors. We secure contractors and vendors for the Weatherization and Furnace Programs following common procurement standards that are set by the State. These generally require that we get quotes from qualified contractors (for smaller projects) or that we issue public Requests for Bids (RFBs) in order to enter into yearly contracts with vendors or contractors.

The Dane County Rehabilitation Program (DCRP), is a 0% interest, deferred-payment loan program available through Project Home. A mortgage will be signed and filed to secure the re-payment of the loan when your home is sold or is no longer your main residence. Major Home Repairs may include roofing, siding, HVAC, plumbing, electrical, safety concerns, and accessibility modifications. The home must be brought up to code at the completion of the repairs. If you received work through our Minor Home Repair program, there is a three year wait for DCRP services.

The City of Madison Minor Home Repair Program offers low cost home repairs and accessibility modifications for qualified homeowners in the City of Madison. Homeowners pay the cost of materials and $15.00 per hour per person for labor. The Dane County Minor Home Repair program is a grant program that makes necessary repairs for qualified homeowners in Dane County (not in the City of Madison). Homes in the following municipalities are not eligible to be served through the Dane County program: City of Madison (see City of Madison Minor Home Repair), City of Edgerton, Village of Cottage Grove, Village of Maple Bluff, and the Village of Deforest.
