Through Gene's 37 year career with Delta Airlines he was introduced to Habitat for Humanity and volunteered on his first build in Salt Lake City, Utah during 1998. That's when he first got hooked, and continued his work with Habitat until his passing in November 2015. Our Field of Dreams in Kearns represents an important innovation on our model, putting families in housing that they can afford, while also creating more sustainability for the families and our environment. Requiring only $1.50/day to heat and air condition, the Field of Dreams homes support a future that we can all benefit from.
Salt Lake Valley Habitat for Humanity seeks to eliminate poverty and homelessness from the world and to make decent shelter a matter of conscience and action. Habitat for Humanity invites people of all backgrounds, races, and religions to build houses together in partnership with families in need. Salt Lake Valley Habitat for Humanity seeks to accomplish this mission and vision by building decent, affordable homes and making critical home repairs for working families in need to revitalize our community and eliminate poverty housing conditions.
Salt Lake Valley Habitat for Humanity ReStore is a retail outlet where quality used and surplus building materials are donated by individuals, businesses, contractors, and other organizations who wish to show their support for Habitat. Products are then sold at below retail prices. Proceeds from ReStore help fund the Salt Lake Valley Habitat for Humanity mission of eliminating poverty housing within our community. By donating materials to the ReStore you not only help assist in the building of a Habitat home but also reduce the amount of materials sent to the local landfill.
