As a result of Tropical Storm Irene, the Cold River surged, causing sections of Route 2 in Charlemont and Savoy, MA to be washed out and the roadway made unsafe and impassable. In mid-October 2011, MassDOT awarded an emergency repair contract to E.T.& L. Corp. This project in Williamstown, MA replaces a deteriorated concrete, planted retaining wall along Route 2 with a new planted wall. In addition, a galvanized steel pile and concrete panel retaining wall must be installed. We are one of the State's leading firms for the advancement and construction of highways, roads, bridges, landfills, site development and environmental projects.
Like many firms, our beginning was small and humble. The Company was founded in 1945 as Eastern Tree and Landscape Corporation of Dedham, Massachusetts. At that time, residential and commercial landscaping made up the majority of work. These early years garnered the work ethic we hold true to today: hard work done well. In the 1950s, E.T.& L. began its land clearing division and soon became one of the largest commercial land clearing contractors in New England. The following decade brought involvement in complete site preparation, land development and road construction.
In 1986, E.T.& L. Construction Corp. formed its Environmental Division in response to an emerging market for work in the field of environmental protection. The Division's main focus is on landfill caps and expansions, cleaning up contaminated areas and working in and around hazardous materials. To protect our employees on these types of projects, E.T.& L. relies on education and training programs such as the OSHA Hazardous Waste Operation Training, Confined Space Training, and Lead and Asbestos Abatement Training.
