We do not pick up Freon appliances (unless the appliances are part of a kitchen set donation). Please come into the store to pay the $10 fee, then reverse your vehicle to the Donate Here doors to drop your item(s) off any time during our regular business hours. Freon appliances are handled by Appliance Warehouse, and they remove the Freon, so it isn't allowed to vent into the atmosphere, where it has been linked to ozone depletion. Once the Freon is removed, appliances are recycled for the scrap metals.
Batteries - Frick Environmental Center free recycling of alkaline batteries - a recycling station including a tube for batteries is just inside, near elevator. Books - first of all please consider whether a nonprofit social service organization, such as an afterschool program or homeless shelter could use your books. If they're not usable, see here. CD cases - made from #6 plastic that your local public works or other recycling services may not accept. Or try places that recycle these & other tech/electronic stuff (you would have to pay for shipping): CD Recycling Center of America, GreenDisk.
CJ is encouraging all reuse fans to take five minutes this weekend and send an email to the EPA to tell the agency to include reuse in their recycling methodology and to up their tracking and data analysis of C&D waste.
