Our insistence on innovative design and a quality product goes back to our roots and the personal passion of our founder and president, Michael Markel. During the summer of 1969, Michael left his native New Jersey in a '67 Firebird, bound for the University of Colorado in Boulder. He majored in International Studies, but it was his summer job as a framer that ignited Michael's love for design and home building. He graduated from CU and, in 1973, officially formed the Markel Homes Construction Company.
Nothing showcases our obsession with design and quality like a gallery of photographs. The images tell the story. We value good-looking architecture in a range of styles, expansive views, inviting outdoor living spaces, open interiors that exude good taste, and kitchens and baths dressed in high-quality finishes and fixtures. We attempt to do everything well, from choosing the location to fleshing out the design and building the finished product. Our portfolio features images from homes we built years ago as well as newer properties.

Students from Centaurus High School's engineering program got to see real-world examples of the concepts they are learning in class when they visited Markel Homes' North End community in Louisville this week. Markel Homes superintendents Rob King and Ed Stayer, along with structural engineers from Lafayette-based DLK Engineering, took students on a tour of two.
