Glass products are used in a variety of applications that require specialized security. A transparent mirror allows undetected observation of an adjoining area when used in conjunction with differential lighting ratios. This product is ideal for prison control rooms, interrogation rooms, inmate observation areas, psychiatric or clinical observation, general surveillance or any application that requires undetected observation.

The glass plies may be of equal or unequal thickness. Laminated glass is a durable, high-performance glazing product, designed to remain integral in the opening should glass damage occur. Often laminated glass is required to provide protection against man-made threats or natural disasters such as hurricanes, bomb blasts or forcible-entry. Insulating glass consists of two or more plies of glass enclosed by a spacer. Inherently, insulating glass increases a window's thermal performance by reducing the heat gain or loss. At Viracon, insulating glass units are sealed with a primary seal and a secondary seal of silicone. Insulating units are designed to absorb stress on the unit caused by thermal expansion and pressure, provide a barrier to water and moisture infiltration, provide a gas-tight seal to prevent loss of any specialty gas fill and create a barrier that reduces condensation.

The most common insulating glass unit is constructed with two plies of glass and one sealed air space. This configuration is a dual pane or double pane insulating glass unit, however is commonly shortened to insulating glass. Insulating glass is used due to the improvement in solar performance it provides. The most significant improvement is thermal performance (u-value) which improves by approximately 50% when compared to a monolithic glass ply. This improvement occurs whether the glass is coated or uncoated.
