The construction of fireplaces and chimneys has become considerably more complicated over the last 15 years, due to significant changes in building codes related to such structures. The codes related to the construction of fireplaces have become so stringent that many masonry companies outsource the construction of fireplaces and chimneys to a specialist, which means that the client pays the mark-up. Mike Pearson retains a foreman with over 25 years of experience in the construction of fireplaces, which allows us to build complex and intricate fireplaces, fire pits, and chimneys in house.

CMU stands for Concrete Masonry Unit, commonly known as cinder block. CMU walls fall into two major varieties, those that are freestanding, and those that are retaining soil (retaining walls.) Both types of walls are secured to a concrete footing (concrete poured into the ground, and reinforced with metal rebar, to which the block will be tied.) Then the block is built up in courses over the footing, and finally, the cells of the block are filled with grout. We also install poured in place retaining walls.
