Ian Smith Design Group is an architecture firm with a diverse view of how architecture can embrace culture intentionally leveraging the diverse experience of its staff to cultivate magical design strategies. We strive to design buildings that are appropriate with respect to culture, climate, and available resources, as well as societal needs. We offer great passion and creativity to all facets of our work. Our extensive design and fine arts background is a valuable resource to our clients. IS-DG insists that success is achieved from providing products that anyone can use.

Our approach to sustainability includes adaptive reuse of buildings. By reusing old buildings we minimize material waste and resource inputs, saving our clients money as well as reducing the environmental impact of development. We also believe participation in community projects is necessary for architects. The skills learned while conducting and participating in community design projects helped us with our design process thinking. We've come up with the following five guiding core values. The book, Invisible Man by Ralph Ellison has been a catalyst to Ian's passion for understanding the position of African Americans in our society.
