This freestanding home in a development with strict HOA rules was over the top western. Sheriff's badges, cowboy boots and hats, even a stuffed bear. It badly needed freshening up. The clients also wanted more space. With HOA limitations, the only way to go was down. An additional 2000 square feet were dug out of the bedrock, adding two bedroom suites, a theater room, a wine room, and a giant steam room. Truly contemporary, right down to the Barcelona Chairs and Ochre Chandelier. A gigantic feat with a fantastic outcome.
Located in Deer Valley, and with direct ski access to Success, Stag Lodge had become quite a desirable and exclusive property. The old 1980's interior needed expanding and renovating. A grand staircase, a new Living Room, Library, Bar, and Private Dining Room were added. The lobby, reception, lounge areas, and restaurant were redesigned. 52 owners, all with specific tastes and requirements, needed to be satisfied. We wanted the new interior to resonate with all of the owners, with a feeling of home.
We've worked with this family many times over the years. Deer Valley, Rancho Santa Fe, Del Mar. They left the ski resort behind a few years ago, but surprisingly decided to return after a young addition to the family. This simple, elegant, light filled condominium just needed the owner's touches. Large scaled contemporary furniture, sheepskin, leather, and mohair. Plus a trip to the Tuscon Gem and Mineral Show for a giant rose quartz for the Great Room, a 6' tall Crinoid fossil for the kitchen wall, and other unique finds.
The client realized that the original configuration was a bit backward. The main living spaces were on the ground level with low windows and minimal views. Two master bedrooms and bathrooms were located in the lovely, vaulted spaces above. A major reconfiguration was in order, creating a stunning living spaces and great room on the upper level with expansive views and just steps from the ski run. The bedrooms were moved and reconfigured, and a large bedroom ceiling was removed to create new space above for a "jungle gym" of a bunk room.
The interior is warm and contemporary, with a whimsical nod the the mountain house it had been. A new office was added, along with a bunk room.for the girls. The entire property is nestled in an aspen grove. As you look outside in midwinter, the warmth of the finishes and the wool window coverings envelope you.
