We integrate the elements of architectural design, interior design and surrounding landscapes into to an articulate whole. In our design of custom homes and remodels we work to uncover stories that give authenticity to the design. Interior design works with many of the same elements associated with fine arts. It's an iconographic way of using: space and form, shapes and sizes, abstract arrangement, materials and textures, light and shade, color and perception; all part of the designers palette when working to create a space for living.
We strive to support the artisan in our own back yard, where opportunity abounds to go local and green and meet the artisan face to face. With local artisans we have collaborated to design furniture, light fixtures, upholstery, ceramic tiles, cabinets, front doors and stained glass. If there is not a local solution to our custom needs we can look further afield. We have vast experience in custom design, working with artisans throughout the world. Using European fabrics, we can design custom bedding.
The kitchen is a public space of celebration and gratitude - a balance of form and function - a melting pot of materials, fixtures, appliances and cabinetry. We design a kitchen like a chef makes a banquet, a thousand decisions to make, a thousand flavors and nuances to get it just right. Kitchen in Italian vernacular with international resources: 18th century English baker's table, Indonesian teak counter top, French stove, and Italian terracotta tiles. The cabinetry and serving table are custom by ARC Design.
Our initial meetings often start with a potpourri of ideas, memories and images of buildings, spaces, colors, textures, fabrics and furniture. These ideas inform the creative process, they are like seeds looking for fertile soil. The architectural design process starts with a dialog to develop themes and project requirements that are followed with proposals, schematics and presentations. Our goal is to be pragmatic about costs and limitations. Working drawings and specifications are created for permitting and construction.
