Founded in 1969, R&M CONSULTANTS, INC. (R&M) is an entirely Alaska-based, employee owned professional services consulting firm. Originally founded as a sole proprietorship offering geotechnical engineering, R&M has grown to a thriving, nearly 100-person multi-discipline firm. From offices in Anchorage and Fairbanks, R&M provides: civil, structural, waterfront and geotechnical engineering; geology; water resources (hydrology); environmental services; transportation and land use planning; public involvement services; land surveying; right of way services; geographic information system (GIS) services; construction administration; special inspections; and materials testing.

R&M is a 100% Alaskan-owned and operated professional services consulting firm. Over our 50-year history, R&M has built a solid reputation as one of Alaska's premier professional services consulting firms. We have grown from a sole proprietor focused on geotechnical engineering to a 90-person multi-discipline firm. Unlike many of our competitors, 100% of R&M's staff is based in Alaska - proof that our commitment to this great state is strong. In our last strategic planning session (2012), the firm reaffirmed our intention to remain entirely Alaska-based and focused on innovation in professional solutions for Alaska's challenging environmental conditions.

An R&M employee since 1979, Len worked his way up from field surveyor to Vice President with responsibility for management of the Surveying and Mapping Department, to his current position as Chief Executive Officer. He offers strong leadership and operational knowledge and has played an important role in implementing the firm's operational structure since 2002. A member of R&M's senior management team, Len plays a vital role in advancing the firm's existing work by supporting the operational departments and leading execution of R&M's strategic plan.

R&M's water resources team offers a full spectrum of hydrology and hydraulics services in support of civil infrastructure projects. We provide expertise across all stages of project development - from pre-project planning and concept development, through design, construction and post-construction monitoring. R&M provides the following hydrologic and hydraulic expertise: data collection (stream gaging, flow measurements, geomorphology assessments), hydrologic analyses (flood studies, low flow and duration flow analyses, stream basin studies, spring breakup studies, storm water runoff computations), erosion analyses (bank migration studies, erosion assessments, sediment transport computations), hydraulic analyses (bridge, culvert, storm drain system, open-channel hydraulics), hydraulic design (stream crossing structures, fish passage culverts, erosion control, storm drain systems), and stream restoration, relocation and reclamation (stream bank restoration, stream realignment and relocation, placer-mined valley reclamation).

R&M performs structural design and forensic engineering services on projects throughout Alaska. Our experienced structural staff has specialized expertise in the design of structures and foundations for military, commercial, institutional and educational facilities suited to Alaska's arctic, subarctic, maritime and temperate regions. R&M has been retained by public and private sector clients to plan, design and develop components for schools, churches, retail facilities, office buildings, hangars, ammunition supply points, weapons training ranges, utilidors, office buildings, cemeteries, water storage reservoirs, utility vaults, highway and pathway bridges and underpasses, port and harbor capital and maintenance projects, airport and highway maintenance facilities, traditional and modular retaining walls, and ASCE 31 seismic evaluation of existing buildings.

R&M has been an industry leader in special inspection services since 1970 for public and private clients. The experience level of R&M's special inspectors allows us to provide typical and specialized inspection services. Typical inspections include soils, drilled pier and driven pile foundations, concrete anchors, racking, fireproofing, reinforcing steel, structural concrete and masonry. Inspections requiring advanced training include pre-tensioned precast concrete, post tension concrete, ready mix plant inspections, commercial building inspections and air barrier inspections.
