Bill Smith started Smith Refrigeration in 1951 after being trained in refrigeration while serving the military. He was later joined in the business by his brother. In the age before air conditioning, the brothers mainly serviced small dairies and grocery stores' refrigeration. Smith was purchased by Carl Brendlinger in 1994. Carl expanded to Columbia and later changed the company's name to Smith Heating & Cooling to reflect the company's growing expertise in the HVAC business. The business grew over the years, Carl and his team have continued the excellent service and sales Bill established over the company's 60 year history.
