In the mid-1920s, Cecil Grilli emigrated from Italy to central Ohio with his parents. As a young man he exhibited a love of woodwork, learning the trade and making it his profession by becoming a union carpenter. Eventually he started a small business making custom furniture and gradually expanded into home construction. In his desire to please his customers, he developed an attention to detail and a love of his art. His son, Anthony Grilli pursued a career in design graduating from Columbus College of Art and Design.
