What was once known as the Engineering and Grading Contractors Association (EGCA), a state wide association for excavating and grading contractors alike that started in 1950. Shortly after starting the EGCA membership exploded with dirt moving companies across California and eventually expanding to 5 chapters by 1953. In November 1974, representatives from the EGCA seceded and formed what is now the Southern California Contractors Association. Since its establishment in 1974, Southern California Contractors Association (SCCA) is a volunteered-led and governed by our members comprised of union-affiliated contractor businesses and affiliate construction industry service providers.
Rules affecting the trucking industry affect everything contractors do, but many contractors tell me "I'm not in the trucking business." Yes, you are. Every piece of equipment on a jobsite comes by truck-sometimes, as with mobile cranes and concrete pumps, the equipment is the truck. Every load of concrete, stick of wood and pound of dirt and rock, hauled into or off the site comes by truckload and you pay for it. In addition to materials, supplies and equipment hauling, most contractors have a fleet of trucks.
The American Road & Transportation Builders Association (ARTBA) is the U.S. transportation construction industry's representative in Washington D.C. ARTBA's mission is to advocate strong federal investment in the nation's transportation infrastructure to meet public demand for a safe and efficient transportation network. The industry ARTBA represents generates more than $200 billion in U.S. economic activity annually and employs 2.5 million Americans. SCCA and ARTBA formed an alliance with those members of our organization who are involved in transportation construction enabling them to join this prestigious organization at a greatly reduced rate from their national membership dues.
