Daniel Jackson Evans was born in 1925 in Seattle and attended the University of Washington, receiving a Bachelors of Science in civil engineering and a graduate degree. After serving in the United States Navy for seven years of active duty, Evans was elected to the Washington State House of Representatives as a Republican before becoming Washington's sixteenth governor in 1965. Evans spent 12 years leading Washington state as governor. In 1983, Evans replaced Henry M. Jackson in the United States Senate, where he served until 1989.
