As late as the mid-1930s, only one in 10 rural homes had electric service. Thanks to an initiative spurred by President Franklin Roosevelt's New Deal, that number transformed to nine out of 10 by 1953. The movement included the incorporation of Tipmont in 1939 to bring electric service to rural areas around Lafayette and Crawfordsville. Today, there are more than 900 electric co-ops in the US bringing electricity to some 42 million Americans. Today, our people continue their dedication to safely providing you with reliable and affordable electricity.
Our electrical system covers more than 2,600 miles, much of it through wooded areas. Unfortunately, trees and power lines just aren't a good mix. In fact, trees growing in or around our power lines are the number one cause of blinks and outages on our system. Trees too close to power lines can also be deadly to you and your children. Tipmont's Right-of-Way, or tree trimming, program trims, controls and, if necessary, removes trees and other vegetation around 10 to 15 feet on either side of the centerline of electric lines.
The Tipmont REMC Community Solar program is a quick, easy and affordable way to generate solar power to use in your home, and help usher in a new era of clean, renewable energy. Community Solar enables you to use clean, renewable solar power in your home. All Community Solar equipment is assembled and serviced at our headquarters so you don't have to worry about costly and timely installation and maintenance.
