The experience of our staff encompasses a wide range of biological and design disciplines required to perform high-quality work on ecological projects. We apply our expertise in wildlife ecology, restoration ecology, plant ecology, fish and aquatic ecology, and landscape architecture in pursuit of our mission to create ecologically sound solutions to our client's complex natural resource challenges.

We piloted permitting, species and habitat mitigation, and monitoring and compliance support efforts at the California Valley Solar Ranch (CVSR). This nearly 1600-acre solar facility in eastern San Luis Obispo County provides 250 megawatts of renewable energy to Pacific Gas and Electric Company's utility grid. In this resource-rich site, we worked with the development team to avoid most impacts to special-status species by carefully siting the arrays and roadways. We developed an extensive mitigation plan for the remaining impacts, which helped preserve and enhance nearly 10,000 acres of on-site and nearby habitats.

Just as H. T. Harvey & Associates is committed to creating ecologically sound solutions for our clients, we also practice corporate sustainability in our workplace. H. T. Harvey & Associates' Los Gatos office is a certified green business in Santa Clara County, California. Our other offices (in Sacramento, Fresno, Arcata, San Luis Obispo, and Honolulu) maintain similar operating practices. Company-wide, we are moving toward a paperless office, provide kitchen dishes, glasses/mugs and flatware, use environmentally friendly cleaning products and recycled papers and materials, and offer socially responsible 401k investment options.

H. T. Harvey & Associate's landscape architects combine creative landscape planning and design skills with ecological training to create exceptional projects. Paired with the deep ecological expertise of the rest of the firm's staff, our landscape architecture team has the capabilities to assist with all project phases from preliminary visioning and planning to construction and post-construction activities. Our projects cover habitat restoration, parks and trails, interpretative and educational programming, open space natural areas, private land use, and trail planning and design.

H. T. Harvey & Associates assisted with permitting and preconstruction surveys for three different phases of the I-80/I-680/State Route 12 Interchange project. Our team helped to prepare and manage permit applications submitted to the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers, the Regional Water Quality Control Board, and the California Department of Fish and Wildlife. We also performed required preconstruction surveys for special-status species and intensive construction monitoring. Each phase of the interchange project presented its own unique challenges.

Every member of our landscape architecture team has training in ecology, and works closely with seasoned H. T. Harvey & Associates ecologists on projects. Led by Principal, Joe Howard, the landscape architecture group has experience with all phases of project planning from habitat restoration in natural and urban environments, to creating conceptual designs, performing site analysis and master planning, writing detailed construction documents, to facilitating client and community group sessions.
