Snow Guards are rooftop devices that help prevent snowslides, the dangerous movement of snow and ice, by allowing it to melt completely or drop off in small amounts. Polycarbonate snow guards can also be referred to as: snow jax, snow stops, snow-guards, snow brackets, snow blocks or snowguards and typically are installed on commercial metal roof buildings. Most of the metal roofs of this time period were mechanically fastened and the majority of snow guards were installed the same way. My father Jack McMullen had been a metal building erector since 1963 and usually installed snow guards on the buildings that had gutters and pedestrian walk and/or parking areas.
