From the first round of golf, played on July 18, 1914, the Chautauqua Golf Club has carved a rich and exciting history. Legendary Scottish architects Seymour Dunn and Donald Ross have left their legacy here. Fourteen World Golf Hall of Famers, including Sam Snead, Ben Hogan, Walter Hagen and Gene Sarazen, have walked these fairways. Statesmen, celebrities and performers attending the world-renowned Chautauqua Institution have eagerly challenged our courses as well, including President Bill Clinton.
Chautauqua Institution is committed to serving as a year-round arts education resource for the youth, teachers and families of Chautauqua County and beyond. Reaching past the summer season and Institution gates, Chautauqua promotes excellence and creativity in engagement with the performing, visual and literary arts from grades Pre-K through 12. Through national partnerships with organizations such as The John F. Kennedy Center for the Performing Arts, the Wick Poetry Center of Kent State University and Carnegie Hall's Weill Music Institute, Chautauqua Institution fosters relationships with educators and schools to provide enriching opportunities that demonstrate cutting-edge best practices in arts education.
