Well when the irrigation system works well it's easy, when it doesn't, it's more often than not very difficult to diagnose or locate problems. The fact that most of the system is underground represents the biggest problem and consequently it's where most of the issues occur. Problems can occur with any of the above parts in an irrigation system. On top of all that, we always have to bear in mind the watering restrictions that are imposed by water companies that vary from county to county.

Unfortunately, they are not very efficient in getting water to the roots of grass and plants where it is most needed. As we know, water is costly so it is essential that sprinkler systems work as efficiently as possible. Make sure the water lands on your plants and grass and not on paved areas. In general, lawns only need inch of water in one watering session. This can be checked by placing empty cans or measuring cups around the yard. Turn on the sprinklers for 30 minutes and after the cycle has finished measure the amount of water collected in each can/cup and check to see that there was an even distribution of water in all receptacles, particularly at the extremes of the property boundaries.

Most commonly, Florida Glass is used in the bottom row of pool screen enclosures to offer a privacy barrier to those using the pool area. When installed, it has an opaque appearance, which limits the visibility from outside the enclosure, but still allows light to penetrate through the screen. Also used in Florida rooms for similar reasons. Some folks use it to completely screen in their Florida room from the elements. Many pool decks suffer from dirt, dust or grass clippings blowing through the screens.

Mulch is used to retain moisture in the soil around plants and to help reduce weed growth, as you will have noticed at the box stores there are many different types to choose from and to be honest it really comes down to personal choice. It also helps when it comes to trimming bushes and trying to rake up the clippings, smaller mulch can get raked up with the clippings and at least with the larger size the removal rate will be reduced. Mulch will fade quickly especially given our intense sun here in Central Florida, so mulch is generally freshened up once or twice a year.

What's new?
