A solid base is key to supporting the weight of traffic and extending the life of your pavement. Cracks begin to develop when the surface beneath the placement is not strong enough to handle the load placed on it. With newer pavement, you see more flexibility, as this pavement ages it can become fragile and more likely to crack. When cracks are not dealt with, they allow water to enter the surface and soften/erode the subgrade which leads to pavement failure. Water cannot be allowed beneath the surface of your asphalt.
