The master woodworkers at Hardwood Design Inc. have been involved in stairbuilding for decades. Since the early 1980s, we have taken part in the creation of many impressive and challenging staircase projects throughout the region. Our mission is to help our customers to utilize our services throughout every stage of the stairbuilding process - from the conceptual design phase to the actual installation of a complete structure. We also offer homeowners, architects, builders, lumber yards and millwork shops a wide array of products created on-site at our Exeter, Rhode Island, workshop.

A small boat building yard in Snug Harbor Rhode Island brought the 3 founding partners together in 1982. They left the boat yard in 1984 to pursue designing and building handmade furniture in leased space at the Dorset Mill in Exeter, RI. The three toiled making furniture and taking on other cabinet jobs while building a local client base and reputation for fine craftsmanship. While creating furniture was creatively fulfilling, it wasn't lucrative enough to pay the bills or grow the business. So began the development of their specialty trade in stair building.

Hardwood Design can provide elevation drawings of your component combination. We encourage architects to include these drawings in your specification packages to contractors. We can provide CAD shop drawings that are invaluable in the layout and construction of stairs and rail systems. If your home plans are on CAD already, you can e-mail us the floor plans which can serve as the basis for our design. We can also provide full scale plots of layouts and components for review or construction purposes.
