The decking plank chosen for your deck can easily effect the overall experience of the completed project. Deck boards come in different types, colors, textures and prices. Non-wood decking planks fall into (2) primary categories: Capped composite planks (made with wood filler) and PVC planks (100% PVC).

The decking industry has made great advancements over the last 15-20 years, particularly with the development of non-wood decking planks and railings. Today the industry is taking its next step forward with the evolution of curved decking planks via heat bending technology. While the process is labor intensive to say the least, the results are well worth the effort. Using Heatcon silicone heating blankets sandwiched between layers of fiberglass insulation, we slowly heat a single PVC decking plank's core temperature to as much as 250°.

Non-wood decking planks are traditionally manufactured using one of two technologies: Capped composite technology or PVC technology. Capped composite are what most people associate with non-wood decking and have been around longer than PVC. Capped composite decking planks are developed from a mixture of plastics and wood fillers that are then capped with a plastic top layer that provides the plank its primary texture and color. PVC planks are entirely made of PVC, contain no wood fillers and have become the primary plank of choice for most premier deck builders throughout North America.
