Simple, understated elegance for your homeHandcrafted to perfection by a master furniture maker in the Maine tradition of fine woodworking. Custom furniture for your institution or officeBringing a new level of confidence, permanence and professionalism to academic, library and corporate environments. Huston & Company designs and builds all types of hardwood furniture: residential furniture for every room in the house, as well as corporate, office, library, academic and institutional furnishings.

Huston & Company designs and builds all types of hardwood furniture: residential furniture for every room in the house, as well as corporate, office, library, academic and institutional furnishings. By focusing on the design process, wood selection, joinery, and finish, our furniture incorporates details simply not found in mass-produced furniture. Since we began in 1988, Huston & Company has remained committed to its founding mission: to design and build furniture that integrates function, form, and master-level craftsmanship in a style that is elegant, graceful, and enduring.

Fundamental to the process of building furniture is the relationship Huston & Company creates with each customer. We look forward to meeting new customers, as much as re-connecting with those who have worked with us in the past. My parents are loyal customers of yours and always sing your praise! I am just newly married and my husband and I are looking for a dining table. I am wondering if you would consider building a table similar to the one you built for my parents many years ago. The best way to begin the order process for standard or custom furniture with Huston & Company is to contact us directly via e-mail, telephone, a visit to our showroom, or through our custom form.

When we design a new piece of furniture we consider function, proportion, aesthetics, and timelessness. We meld these elements to create furniture that has a defining presence, yet fits gracefully in your home. Furniture with timeless elegance and lifelong functionality.

It is common for prospective customers to think of custom furniture as being expensive and out of reach. It doesn't have to be as Huston & Company demonstrates. If a company makes production furniture, even a slight variation creates time consuming and costly diversions from the standard product. Prices are higher to cover the cost of the disruption and inconvenience. By contrast, at Huston & Company, every piece is built one at a time, and a welcome challenge that the furniture makers are efficient at creating.

Huston & Company naturally embodies the foundations of ecological responsibility, while striving to take additional steps to be proud stewards of our planet. We design and build furniture to last a life time, and this concept of lasting quality and value is inherently "green." Because each piece of furniture is built to last multiple generations, we sign and date each piece with confidence knowing it will not need to be replaced or added to a landfill. With this concept as the foundation, we also make continuous, conscious decisions to ensure as little impact on the planet as possible.

To place an order for a piece of Huston & Company furniture for your home or office, please contact our showroom. Whether it's a standard item from our catalog or a custom design, we will walk through the simple ordering process with you. At the time of order, we require a 50% deposit, payable by personal or business check, MasterCard or Visa. When you order custom furniture, Huston & Company works closely with you to create that ‘perfect' piece of furniture. We consider your lifestyle, functional requirements, and the interior style of your home or office.

What is considered too difficult for other furniture manufacturers is customary workmanship at Huston & Company. Our standard features include hand-cut dovetails, mortise and tenon joinery, fully finished backs, and hand-rubbed finishes. Upon request, we incorporate granite tops, intricate inlay, contrasting wood pulls, and beveled glass. This level of specialization is simply not found in mass produced furniture. When you order custom furniture, Huston & Company works closely with you to create that ‘perfect' piece of furniture.

Below is a selection of the recognition and features we've been so fortunate to receive over recent years. A special thanks to the publications in Maine and beyond who continue to support the work of our furniture makers.

During his college years, Bill Huston spent two years studying furniture making in Blaker, Norway, in the 1970's. From there, he moved to Maine and began work with a prominent furniture builder, honing skills, working on new designs and learning about the business of furniture making. His progression to Production Manager pulled him away from his favorite parts of the business: direct communication with customers and designing furniture. And so, in 1988, Bill Huston founded Huston & Company. The company was formed in Poland Spring, Maine and in 1995, moved to a brand new facility in Kennebunkport.

Excited to see this story from Maine Homes by Down East land in our inboxes just now. We were delighted to work with Nicola's Home on a custom table that made the cover of the magazine! Beautiful photos by Erin Little Photography.
