Using only the finest ethically-sourced hardwoods, solid-wood joinery and hand applied finishes, each of our pieces is created to our client's exact specifications. Our pieces are individually handcrafted and, with the utmost attention to detail, provide a lifetime of flawless function and beauty. I commissioned a custom desk by John, and it has performed amazingly over the past four years. It has been a gorgeous daily-driver, and even matches the nightstand and tallboy dresser. John worked with me throughout the process, and was very personable and attentive, as was his staff.
JOHN LANDIS CABINETWORKS was founded with John as the only designer and builder. Now, more than fifteen years later, John remains the designer and, though the company has grown to include many talented craftsmen and finishers, he has his hands on almost every piece. Trained as an Architect at the University of Virginia, John soon became dissatisfied with the "hands-off" nature of the profession and, instead, turned his attention to furniture building, In 1997, after serving a one-year apprenticeship in fine furniture building and two years as a Journeyman, John opened John Landis Cabinetworks.
There are many opportunities to view our furniture in person. For those unable to get to one of those venues, this website provides a "gallery" for your viewing. However, the beauty and value of our furniture goes well beyond these pages. We encourage phone calls and conversations. While we have many "collections" established, much of our work continues to be custom. Feel free to use the images here as a launching point to create a design that is just right for you and your home. When you begin the process of ordering a piece of John Landis Cabinetworks furniture, either by phone, email, or through a conversation at one of our shows, you will quickly realize that the value of handmade furniture exceeds the excellent craftsmanship.
