Sustainability, recycling, counter-tops and cabinets, that is what the Rust Brothers are up to on a daily basis. The web site will tell you all you need to know about them and their beautiful products made from recycled materials including. Rust Brothers is a Minneapolis-based company on a mission: to creatively and safely produce custom wood and architectural surface products that are beautiful, durable, good for the environment, good for people, and good for the economy.
Rust Brothers creates cabinetry and surfaces that are as attractive, durable and cutting edge as they are sustainable. We believe that our unique combination of creativity, irreverence, and professionalism set us apart in our industry, crafting a tasty buzz that is good for the earth, our company and our community. Based in Minneapolis, Minnesota, Rust Brothers is owned and operated by four guys with similar world-views, different skill sets and adventurous souls. We create and install cool, high quality, innovative products for homeowners and small & large businesses - including Whole Foods, Microsoft and Boston Scientific; to name just a few.
We hand craft our composites using only zero VOC epoxy resins. Different proprietary formulations are used for each application, but our resins have one thing in common - they are all VOC free, and do not off-gas any nasty chemical byproducts before, during, or after the creation of each countertop panel. Our premium resin systems allow us to make countertops that are stronger, more durable and more earth friendly than composites made with polyester resin. Manufacturing work like ours is very messy and highlights another important reason we use epoxies - clean up at the end of the day requires nothing more than household vinegar.
Element Surfaces: Post consumer and post industrial glass - Countertops crafted out of everything from your recycled dinner party wine and beer bottles to the windows from an old building down the street and retired vehicle windshields. Our surfaces serve your purpose with style. Nuxite: Crushed Walnut Shells - Surfaces crafted from the renewable byproduct of annual walnut food crop harvests. Going nuts never looked so good. Extremely stain resistant. No maintenance required.
We know you want the choice of just the right colors to create a one-of-your-kind recycled glass countertop. You want to select the very best wood species and composite veneer for a cabinetry or furniture project. You want to to explore new frontiers of materials and techniques to achieve a particular effect. We know what you want. We work closely with architects, designers, showrooms, contractors, and homeowners to match the best materials for any intended use, with sustainability always at the forefront of decision making processes.
Rust Brothers offers full service fabrication of a huge variety of materials - no shape is too unusual nor any material too difficult. In fact we thrive on the challenges that new and unusual often present, and sometimes scare away the weaker willed. We collaborate with select, trusted co-conspiritors to meet every challenge and find every solution. We call on them, when necessary, to help us complete work for our clients that is second to none. And conspirators we are indeed - we want everything to look it's best without wrecking it in the process.
Reclaimed commercial and industrial glass - Available in many colors, glass is one of the few materials that can be used over and over again, in many forms, without losing its quality. We prefer it crushed or in small pieces for use in our Element Surfaces™ line of precast surfaces.
Design & Build - We work closely with architects, designers, contractors, and homeowners to match the best materials for any intended use, with sustainability always at the forefront of decision making processes. Cabinetry - We offer standard cabinet sizing for ease in layout and planning, as well as customized and fully custom pieces to fit every nook and cranny or conceivable need, from understated and subtle, to the central masterpiece that dominates a vision for an interior space. Fabrication & Install - From reclaimed wood to stainless steel, to state of the art composites, solid glass, and agglomerate countertop surfaces, no shape is too unusual nor any material too difficult.

Vita.mn did a nice write up on the remodel and reopening of the Birchwood Cafe, which, it just so happens, Rust Brothers was lucky enough to be a part of. We made some sweet (bright green!) Element Surfaces recycled glass countertops, as well as the reclaimed Douglas Fir table tops, AND the steel...
Organic, hand-cut, french fry tasting; it's a tough job but somebody's gotta do it. And how about these lovely reclaimed douglas fir table tops made especially for us by Rust Brothers, LLC! SOON people. Very soon!#growbirchwoodgr ow
