A young second-generation retailer who recently graduated from college had a vision of a retail environment: here shoppers would experience a line of top quality home appliances and electronics at low prices, but without sacrificing the personal attention lacking in most stores while receiving a level of customer service nonexistent in many retailers of the period. So in 1983, the very first King's retail store opened its doors. In 1986, the Great Buys Plus Corporation was founded to expand by creating partnerships with other retailers that were of a like mind and shared this vision.
