Whether you're considering a simple project or a complex one, there are literally thousands of products all competing to be the chosen ones for your upcoming project. It's daunting for someone like yourself who is not in the industry to have to wade through internet searches, brochures and sales pitches to find the products that are right for your project. That's where Bergen Decks come into play. We are specialists whose focus is being THE deck and patio authority in Bergen County (and maybe even the world!).

Our tagline is "Your Complete Backyard Solution" because after completing hundreds of projects, we realized that many clients' needs are best served by examing the backyard as a whole-how it's used and who uses it most-and creating a design plan that really makes the yard "work" in a whole new way. In other words, we don't limit ourselves to just decks or just patios so we'll often combine the two to create a distinctive flow to the backyard that's conducive to entertaining, relaxing, playing or whatever you desire.

There are nearly infinite ways to add railing to your deck project. We'll guide you through the process of selecting the best railing system for your project based on several factors that you probably never even thought of! We want to make sure you love your railing design and that it works for your lifestyle. With railings, it's important that form follows function. Modern synthetic railings are manufactured in a variety of different methods and each system has its own unique advantages. Our extensive product knowledge gives us the ability to create distinctive railing designs for you by mixing and matching railing products from different railing manufacturers.

While you may think a company called "Bergen Decks" only builds decks, you're wrong! Whereas 25 years ago an outdoor living space was typically either a deck or a patio, times have changed. Modern backyard design often integrates the both decks and patios to create an efficient, flowing transition from the interior space of the home to the yard itself. Nowadays, this saying really rings true in outdoor construction. Contractors that only handle hardscaping like patios, walkways, and retaining walls are going to look at every project they approach from one side, when in reality, the best design for your needs might need to have a deck, a shade structure and some hardscaping to make it come to life.

A pergola (commonly mistakenly referred to an "arbor") is a type of shade structure that can be installed over your deck or patio to provide shade and/or rain protection depending on the design. They can be freestanding or attached to a wall of your house. There's two ways we build pergolas. For the lowest maintenance options, we utilize manufactured kits made from vinyl or fiberglass that are offered in many popular sizes, styles, and designs. For a truly unique pergola designs we use wood like cedar or redwood and custom build the pergola piece by piece.

There is no such thing as "maintenance free" decking and railing so please, understand any product you select will require some kind of ongoing maintenance. Anyone that tells you otherwise is feeding you a line. You wash your car right? Well, you have to wash your deck too! All of the products we provide and install are "low maintenance", meaning cleaning will have to be done to keep the deck, railings and surfaces in good condition. What varies among deck and rail products is the amount of cleaning and the vigor with which it must be done.

Today's decks have become entertainment spaces that carry the homeowners' style from indoors to the great outdoors and lighting is usually requested by nearly all of our clients for aesthetics and safety. Traditional spotlights or carriage lights attract insects and are usually too bright to create the right mood for casual entertaining. We install low voltage lighting on the majority of our deck projects as it's popularity has practically made it a standard "must have" item for our clients. The mellow lighting of low voltage lights does not attract insects and provides just enough light for you and your guests to see each other without being overpowered.
