This site offers resources to members of the AIA and the public. Here you will find information about the practice of architecture and the role of AIA Architects in working with their communities to create a better future by design. As a Chapter of the American Institute of Architects, AIA Tennessee includes Architect, Associate and Emeritus members of Tennessee. By advancing our shared values of Community, Knowledge and Advocacy, AIA members strive to make the world a better place for everyone to live, work and play.

The goal of AIA Tennessee is to shape the professional environment in Tennessee so that architects, clients, the building industry and the public at large understand and appreciate the value we bring to the community. AIA Tennessee responds to the needs of its 1,000+ members through new programs, policies and people. Its strength comes from the active involvement of all its members, whether practicing in small, mid-sized or large offices; or working in a university, government or industry. The diversity of personalities and activities presents an opportunity for enriching experiences.

The State Building Commission (SBC) oversees construction of all State public buildings. The SBC's responsibility has been expanded to include authority over most acquisition, disposal, improvement or demolition of real property owned by the State with the exclusion of roads, highways and bridges. In addition, its authority extends to the leasing of real property as well as disposal by lease of State property. The Office of the State Architect provides staff support to the Tennessee State Building Commission (SBC).
