AIA San Francisco stands in support of Black communities in condemning systemic racism. As architects, we are community builders committed to designing spaces that support well-being - physical, mental, and social - with equitable access for everyone. The American Institute of Architects, San Francisco (AIASF), is a 501(c)6 non-profit membership business-league organization dedicated to upholding the character and advancing the integrity of the built environment in the San Francisco Bay Area. Since its inception in 1881, AIASF has been a pioneering force in designing the buildings, neighborhoods, parks, public spaces and infrastructure that shape the cherished and vibrant urban fabric of the Bay Area. Today, in partnership with The Center for Architecture + Design (The Center), a 501(c)3 organization, AIASF serves our local community through exceptional programming and advocacy initiatives that elevate public discourse about architecture and design.

AIA San Francisco created the nonprofit Center for Architecture + Design to expand on community engagement in the fields of architecture, design, and the built environment. In recognition of the Center's 15th anniversary, AIASF has developed a momentous plan to grow educational and public programming to inform, inspire, educate and engage audience on the leadership of the architecture and design industry to create a more enjoyable, equitable, inclusive, and sustainable built environment. Together, we will be housed in the our new vibrant, dynamic, street-level public storefront space in the historic landmark Hallidie Building.

Few people realize how complicated it is to build - that is until they find themselves lost in numerous design options, building codes, zoning laws, contractors, and so on. No two building projects are exactly alike and there is no clear-cut path to follow. General building designs may prove helpful to start the process of designing but they often disregard the conditions of your specific building site and may not fully reflect your personal preferences and needs for the project. An architect looks out for your interests and finds ways to navigate the complexities of the design process.
