Tree Specialists was started by Rolf Briggs in 1981, while studying Arboriculture at the University of Massachusetts in Amherst. While many of his peers were investing in cranes and whole tree chippers to expedite the removal and processing of tree parts, Rolf focused on developing structural pruning, bracing, and prescription fertilization techniques to stabilize and extend tree life. 40 years later, Rolf and his team of dedicated certified arborists are still at it. Whether it's a single tree in a backyard, or a collection of hundreds on a private school campus, we have the staff, equipment, and know-how to help you meet your objectives.
When it comes to tree protection and tree preservation, don't settle for anything less than working with an accredited tree care company. We consider it our responsibility to stay at the forefront of best practices in our industry, both in business ethics and in current scientific tree care techniques. For this reason, Tree Specialists has sought and received accreditation by the Tree Care Industry Association. After completing a rigorous application process, including audits of our facilities, bookkeeping, and staff training and documentation, we continue to maintain this total quality assurance program by submitting to annual reviews by TCIA.
Pruning is the most common structural tree care practice performed by Tree Specialists. We take great care to evaluate the needs of each specimen individually and apply the proper technique to achieve the desired objective. Properly pruned trees are more attractive and structurally stable, better able to withstand the ravages of our stormy New England weather. All of Tree Specialists pruning treatments are based on the ANSI A300 Pruning Standards, recognized by professional arborists nationwide.
The loss of a tree can create an opportunity to add a new one to your landscape. We can help you select a new tree or shrub that is well-suited to your site conditions and provides the visual qualities you're looking for. We select quality plant material, install it properly, and provide an after-care program to ensure the plant's successful transition to its new home. Many of our region's most attractive and desirable urban and suburban communities are reaping the rewards of tree planting efforts of the past, and it is our duty to perpetuate and improve our community forests.
Tree Specialists has found that lightning damage to trees in our area is not uncommon. The National Fire Protection Association recommends that large trees that are within 10 feet of structures, are taller than the structure, or that have limbs extending over the structure, should have a lightning protection system installed. These systems not only protect the tree, they also reduce the chances of damage to the structure itself. The total current in an average lightning strike is usually between 20,000 and 50,000 amps at about 100,000 volts!
Like any living thing, plants are susceptible to attack from insects and disease. Limited populations of pathogenic organisms are normal in any landscape, but, in some cases, they must be controlled by the application of materials designed for this purpose. Tree Specialists utilizes the latest class of spray materials called bio-rationals. These are the most effective and least toxic materials available for pest management. In fact, most are less toxic than common household cleaning agents. Whenever practical, we recommend removal of insect or disease prone plants and replacement with resistant cultivars.
In many situations, the best service we can provide for our clients is experience and expertise. At Tree Specialists, our team of certified consulting arborists provide a full range of consultation services. A thorough exploratory inspection of an individual tree or group of trees to assess the potential risk and consequences of structural failure. The assessment considers three factors: the tree's failure potential, the setting in which the tree grows, and potential targets. Typically includes recommendations for ameliorating the risk.
It is impressive to watch their skilled tree crew at work whether maneuvering a crane, a bucket or throwing ropes and climbing the trees. It is a pleasure to work with Tree Specialists; they respect our ideas and it is comforting that they are there should nature strike.-
