A successful design and installation depends on sound horticulture. Our designs focus on four season beauty, low maintenance, biodiversity, native plants, and long-term sustainability. Using a holistic approach, these services include mature tree preservation, pruning of large or small trees and shrubs consulting, disease and insect diagnostic work, organic pest control, organic fertilization, plantings, removals, repairing ice storm damaged trees, and cabling of mature trees. Maintenance includes dividing, transplanting, organic fertilization, weeding, natural disease and insect control.

This conceptual landscape design and installation of a shade garden and Goshen flagstone walkway was especially enjoyable because of the satisfaction the client received from it. She was open to all of our ideas and is looking forward to maintaining it herself. After (2 Years Later): The flagstone path meanders through a lush shade garden. The curves and close placement of stones to one another is designed to slow the observer's pace. Before:This picture was taken after the soil was prepped, the path was roughed out and some viburnum were planted.

Most of Hilltown Tree & Garden's clients are homeowners interested in preserving their trees. Many are interested in planting new ones. During the first consultation, Jim, a certified arborist and certified horticulturist, will meet with the owner and evaluate the property. They will address key tree care issues like soil condition, sun exposure, weight distribution of branches, disease prevention, natural pest control, and water drainage among others. Then they establish a course of action that meets the established goals.

As a landscape designer, Jim McSweeney works with each client individually to craft a landscaping that matches their vision. This entails a three step process: meeting with the homeowner for preliminary consultation, designing a possible plan for the site, and finally installation, where the project becomes a reality. Every completed job has a unique assortment and arrangement of different elements. Some common features are ornamental or fruit trees, stylized cottage or formal gardens, native flowers and grasses, or a flagstone path or patio.
