Long known as the "City of Ships, " Bath, Maine finds its soul and identity in shipbuilding. From its architecture and cultural offerings to its urban downtown, Bath's shipbuilding roots define its character. Bath is located on a beautiful broad stretch of the Kennebec River, whose deep waters helped create and sustain a centuries-old shipbuilding tradition. Shipyards once lined the river's edge and Bath-built vessels sailed the seas of the world. Bath remains strong in its maritime traditions and is home of the world-class shipbuilding company Bath Iron Works and the nationally acclaimed Maine Maritime Museum, which offers a variety of exhibits on our state's nautical history.
