Indianola's publicly owned utility has served the community for over a century, beginning with electric service in 1890. Municipal utilities have many distinct characteristics that benefit the community they serve. A five-member Board of Trustees, appointed by the Mayor and approved by City Council, oversee the operations of IMU. Local representation and control is key to providing the citizens a voice in terms of community needs, policies, and decision-making. There have been many changes over the years in the way of industry standards, technology, and equipment, but IMU has remained your hometown utility company.
