Performance Lawn and Landscaping was founded in 2008 by Bill Murphy as a small lawn maintenance company. It quickly grew into a full service lawn and landscape provider. With a true passion for building things and the challenge of creating amazing landscapes, Bill has since transitioned the company to focus heavily on landscape design and build projects, while still keeping a small portfolio of maintenance customers. Bill and Jen both love the outdoors - hiking, gardening, farming, fishing. Bill started in 2005 as an assistant caretaker for an estate in Millbrook NY.

We offer a wide range of small to medium excavation and equipment services for your home or commercial property. With a our background in finishwork, we know how to maintain a clean, efficient jobsite. We believe that all work from start to finish should be completed to the highest standard of quality, even if it will be buried, backfilled, or otherwise unseen. If you have a project that can use a little heavy lifting, our equipment is available on a per job or per hour basis with an experienced operator and delivery, ready to work.

Patios come in all shapes and sizes, can have multiple uses, and are the first part to creating the ultimate outdoor living space. If you enjoy entertaining, the spending time outdoors, and extending the living space of your home outside then a patio is for you. Planning the perfect patio starts with determining how you you would like to use the space, and where on your property you would like your new patio. Designs can be as simple as a 10x10 space for a small bistro table with space for 1-3 guests, all the way up to a 700+ square foot space with areas designated for cooking, eating, and lounging around a fire.

A front walkway is one of the first thing guests see when they arrive at your home, and one of the most used features in your hardscape. Your front walkway should be welcoming, safe, and accent your home and style. We believe that first impressions are lasting, and look forward to helping you make a great impression on everyone who visits your home. Walkways do not just end in the front lawn though. In the back of your house, they can connect two outside spaces such as a pool area and outdoor kitchen space.

Retaining walls can be a very important piece to any project large or small, and their importance is often overlooked. They can serve as something as simple as a feature for seating or dividing one space from another, to a more complex structure providing level ground for building an outdoor living space, pool, or driveway. Because of the structure a retaining wall must provide they have additional requirements for installation. Proper footing depth and compaction, embedment (the amount of wall installed below grade for strength), geogrid reinforcement, and most importantly drainage are some of the most important parts of a wall, and must be completed to the highest standards.

Your landscapes can really come to life when the sun goes down. Outdoor lighting is something once you have you will never want to be without, and arguably one of the best additions to any landscape or outdoor living space. You can increase your usable time on your new patio, create a warm, safe, and inviting entrance to your home, and accent almost any architectural or landscape feature with professionally installed outdoor lighting. Our installations feature all professional grade, solid metal (brass, copper, aluminum), LED fixtures that will last.

This was a new custom home, ready for landscaping. The client wanted something smooth and flowing, with curved lines and colorful plantings to tie it all together. The process started with a site visit to talk about design and take measurements. Once a design was generated and approved, construction was scheduled to begin when the house was complete. The first phase of the project was to install the walkway and hardscape elements. For this project Cambridge Paving Stones Ledgestone XL was used, with a border and accent band of complimentary colors.

All great things start with a plan. A unique landscape designed with future growth and success in mind will ensure your project looks great for years to come. Landscape design is the process of incorporating different hardscape (masonry and constructed features), softscape (plantings and living elements), and site conditions together to create the perfect outdoor space to fit your home and your lifestyle. We understand that sometimes getting started is the hardest part. Let us guide you by making sure all your boxes are checked and everything has been considered before construction begins.

Well designed plantings and landscaping provide stunning curb appeal and assist in making a landscape look finished and polished. They help to soften outdoor spaces and bring warmth to any project. Plantings can be very simple, ranging from privacy hedges of trees and shrubs, to more complex designs with intricate perennial gardens featuring many layers of color, texture and seasonal interest. No matter the size or scope of your landscaping project, a few things need to be considered for its long-term success - the amount and type of sunlight, moisture and drainage, pest pressure (deer, rabbits, insects), and the amount of maintenance the space will require to be sustainable.

What's new?

When planting, choose native plants like highbush blueberry and Christmas fern and avoid invasive species such as burning bush and winter creeper. You can see photos of other native plants and their similar looking invasive counterparts on DEC's website under Living the Green Life. dec.ny.gov/ ...
