We require our arborists to maintain certification through the International Society of Arboriculture, and pay for and encourage our arborists to take courses to continue advancing their knowledge. Founder Jean-Luc Bengle is also a Board Certified Master Arborist, the highest level of certification offered by ISA and held by only 2% of all ISA certified arborists. Our process starts with finding out what your goals are, and giving you important insight and knowledge about your trees, so you can make the best decision for you and your trees.

We can also give you honest advice on if your tree is still viable if it had some major parts break in it, and what can make it less hazardous and keep it together after such a large part of the canopy was lost. We love to save these trees when possible, but we will also recommend removal if that is necessary. More trees usually come down after a storm is hit because people get scared into thinking their trees are very dangerous and many tree services will try and convince you that you need to cut down your trees to keep your house safe just so they can make a lot of money, and they don't necessarily have the education or training to know what they are talking about but can certainly pray upon fear.

We take pruning trees very seriously and all of our arborists have a lot of education and training until they fully understand tree biology and response growth before ever cutting living branches off a tree. One main way we accomplish this is through ISA certification which is obtained through studying for and passing an extensive test about all aspects of tree care and maintenance, and then having to maintain the certification through obtaining Continuing Educational Units by taking classes and workshops to stay current on the best practices in tree care.

At Vitalitree, we are committed to quality tree care and honest evaluations and recommendations. Our crews always have at least 2 certified arborists and oftentimes 3 or more, and encourage constant learning to increase their skills and expertise. Jean-Luc started vocational college for horticulture at 16 and graduated with a 2-year degree in environmental horticulture at 18. Having been introduced to arboriculture in college, it was clear what he wanted to do in life. After working for a few different companies in the Seattle area for 6 years and a 2-year stretch in New Zealand running a tree crew, he decided to go back to school and study farming.

We have a stump grinder for grinding down the stumps of trees that have been removed if you need the area for replanting or construction. Contact us at (206) 498-7998 for your stump grinding needs throughout the greater Seattle and Vashon area. They cut down two trees and ground several stumps in our backyard. Much more professional than other tree companies, showed up on time, did great work, and were just a pleasure all around. I'd strongly recommend them, and props to the owner for building a solid team.

We love planting trees and we can help you decide what the best tree for your yard and specific space is. Our certified arborists and risk mitigation specialists can advise you on the best tree options for the space, provide advice on the care of that tree and surrounding area, and alert you to potential hazards that tree or location may introduce in the future. And as we are not a nursery, we have an unbiased view of what to plant and what the future consequences may be. We can pick up the tree at the nursery and plant it in the spot in the best possible method to help ensure its success.

I cannot say enough good things about Jean-Luc and team. I have never seen a group in this industry (landscape, gardening etc.) work as hard as Jean-Luc's team did. They used big rigs, chain saws, carried stumps by hand, and overall I was just super impressed with the work ethic and positivity!
I had a few trees that needed removed as well as some clean-up of trees touching my house (and other tree rotting issues leading to spider infestations and mosquito infestations). Jean Luc is extremely knowledgeable about tree types and in general made me feel at ease about leaving the majority of my trees alone - meaning I only needed to clear a few to ensure the growth and vitality of the others. We also discussed soil drainage, roots, and erosion when discussing my tree concerns.
His team worked for two days straight as per the invoice and estimate and I am extremely pleased with the work done.
I don't think I'll need to have him come again anytime soon, because again he's super knowledgeable about trees and knew exactly what to do with them to ensure healthy trees that wont need to be messed with for years to come. But when I do need another clean-up, I'm not calling anyone else and I will recommend him to all of my neighbors!

Jean Luc and his crew have once again come to our rescue for the second time. Our front yard was graced by a majestic 80-foot tall fir tree, sadly succumbing to the harsh grip of a scorching, dry summer coupled with an invasion of bark beetles. This task posed significant challenges due to its proximity to power lines, neighboring houses, and the narrow confines of our city street. To navigate this perilous situation, they enlisted the help of a crane, acknowledging the tree's precarious stability. Their dedication knew no bounds as they tirelessly toiled to ensure a job well done. Their punctuality and utmost respect for our neighbors did not go unnoticed. Without hesitation, I wholeheartedly endorse them for any such endeavors.

It's been a few years since we brought Vitalitree on board, and their performance has been stellar! Their communication via email was not only professional but also greatly appreciated. Their pricing was fair, and the quality of their work was top-notch. The pruning they carried out significantly revitalized my trees, and they even successfully tackled the removal of some stubborn old hedges that had stumped others. It seems like it's high time to reach out to them again for further assistance!

What's new?

Viatalitree was called out to look at this very old maple on a waterfront property on Vashon. The property had been in the family for 50 years and they really loved the large maple in front. The tree was completely hollow in the very large trunk with signs of Ganoderma wood decay fungus eating...

This was an interesting one, a client called me out to look at the trees on the hill above his house to make sure they were ok, I found this old big leaf maple stump from an uprooted tree that had been cut off about 10' up the stem, and about a foot back from that cut it sprouted and those sprouts...

At Vitalitree we know we have a big impact on the urban forest when we are hired to cut down trees. We try our best to preserve as many trees as possible but there are a lot that are just not safe or just in the wrong spot for the owner of the property and use of the land, which is why we are...

Our customer out in shoreline owns a photography studio and made this time lapse of us taking down his massive Douglas fir tree with our tracked lift. There were high voltage wires on 2 sides of the tree and a row of nice madrona trees underneath the tree that needed to be avoided so every piece...

Bronze Birch Borer is decimating birch trees all over the Seattle area. This epidemic is caused by a beetle that deposits eggs into the vascular tissues of the tree starting at the tops and tips of the tree and working it's way down as the beetles multiply and continue feeding. Healthy trees...
