Exteriors was created in 1982 by Doyle Sims, a man from a long line of construction industry professionals. Doyle left the commercial construction industry to open his own home improvement company, Sims Trim Co. In 1985, Doyle was first introduced to vinyl siding. Doyle says, We were doing the trim work on an apartment complex in Gainesville, and they were putting vinyl siding on them. I saw the value of the low maintenance product with the guarantee and warranty that this vinyl carried. He immediately began to use the vinyl siding on a duplex that he was building, and also on his own home to cover cedar siding that was badly in need of repair.
