There is no ONE right answer when it comes to watering a lawn. However, there are a couple of schools of thought that are popular among many turf experts and those of us at Central MO Turf Management subscribe to. IMPORTANT: Don't waste water. If it is raining or if the lawn is wet from a previous heavy rain and you have an irrigation system, pause the controller. Water the lawn as early in the morning as possible after sunrise, we recommend between 4 a.m and 6 a.m. We do NOT recommend watering in the late evening or at night as this practice can result in a major fungus problem.

A soil test is absolutely the best tool available for determining deficiencies or other problems in your soil that can lead to a host of problems with your lawn. Soil testing provides an estimate of plant-available nutrients and identifies any soil borne problems in the soil. It is an essential tool for a sound lawn care program. Periodic soil testing will help to correct nutrient deficiencies and soil problems that are essential to maintaining a healthy lawn. Nutrient deficiencies and serious soil borne problems such as low organic matter or low pH levels will prevent the development of a high quality lawn.

It seems like mole and gopher activity is increasing each year in central Missouri. Also, we are hearing more and more reports of armadillos moving into our area. Each of these burrowing animals can do extensive damage to lawns, landscape beds, and gardens. The primary food source for all burrowing animals is the common earthworm. However, grub worms are their favorite food source when available. Central MO Turf Management started testing a chemical product designed to repel these burrowing animals in the fall of 2011 and have been impressed with the results.

In addition to our fertilization programs for lawns, ornamental trees, and landscaping, Central Mo Turf Management also offers all the additional services necessary for maintaining a beautiful lawn and landscape at your home or office. You can contact one company for all your lawn maintenance needs and look forward a hassle-free summer! Central Mo Turf Management currently provides mowing and trimming service for many customers in both the Jefferson City and Lake Ozark areas. Our experienced crews operate both rider and push mowers capable of mowing any size lawn.

Major and secondary nutrients are most available at a pH of 6.5 to 7.0. Therefore, fertilizer dollars are not wasted when the soil is in this pH range. The calcium in Limestone is necessary in maintaining a desirable soil structure. Moisture and air movement through the soil is essential for plant growth. Calcium keeps the soil mellow and crumbly, encouraging plants to root deeper and grow faster. This also helps eliminate wet spots that otherwise would remain after the rest of the turf is dry. The combination of near neutral pH and an open, well-aerated soil provides the best environment for microorganisms that decompose organic matter, convert fertilizers to usable nutrients, and fix nitrogen from the air to the soil.

Weeds are an all too common occurrence in lawns and gardens. While some may be deemed useful or attractive, most types of weeds are considered a nuisance. Learning more about weed info and control can make it easier to decide how to deal with weeds. Let's take a look at some common weed plants and when or what weed control methods may be necessary. The simple answer is any plant that is growing in your lawn that you do not want there. Some plants are desirable to some homeowners and totally undesirable to others.
