Doug began in the landscaping business in his hometown of Spokane in 1974, moved from Spokane to the Eastside in 1980 and ventured out on his own in 1984 to begin The Northwest Gardener.

Retaining walls are not for just for holding up dirt anymore. We offer installation of various wall types: Natural stone, timbers and countless block styles. The Northwest Gardener did a complete make-over of our backyard. We couldn't be happier with the results. After discussing our wants, Doug redesigned our backyard.

At The Northwest Gardener we implement an Integrated Pest Management (IPM) system to effectively manage pests using all available tactics. The Washington Pesticide Laws and Safety describes this as, IPM offers the possibility of improving the efficiency of pest control programs while reducing their negative impacts. Many successful IPM programs have resulted in reduced energy and pesticide use. (Brown et al. 2012). While we do use pesticides, we strive to incorporate the appropriate IPM given a specific property to limit the amount necessary.
