Founded in 1972, we are a family owned general contractor and construction management firm. We are proud of the reputation we have earned as the "go to" contractor for some of the most challenging, complex buildings in our market. In December of 1972 Lorenz T. Bannes and Joseph F. Shaughnessy left their positions at a respected St. Louis general contractor to form Bannes-Shaughnessy, Incorporated. The company grew slowly but steadily, quietly building a reputation for quality and integrity, and for the ability to deliver unique building projects. After a successful sixteen year run at Bannes-Shaughnessy, Bannes sold his stock to Joe Shaughnessy who then became sole owner of the company. To signal the change in the ownership structure, while retaining the same identity, the company was renamed BSI Constructors.

We are a "Hands On" Builder. That knows how things go together in the field. We emphasize technical construction know-how and the ability to self perform work when it suits the project. We believe that effective construction management is more than just adding up numbers and running meetings. We aren't Litigious. In business since 1972, completed over 1,100 projects, and we've never sued, nor been sued by, a Client or Architect. That's pretty rare in our industry, but a key indicator of how we run our business and honor our commitments.

We are a very client and project focused company. If it doesn't help us build faster, more economically, or to a higher quality standard, then we aren't too interested in spending a lot of time on it. Therefore, we rarely apply for awards. That said, there is one award we do like to showcase because what it says about our commitment to safety. It was an award we did not apply for but were surprised and honored to receive from our trade organization, the Associated General Contractors of St. Louis.

BSI Constructors headquarters is located in the southwestern part of the City of St. Louis at 6767 Southwest Avenue within two miles of Highway 64/40 and less than a half mile from Highway 44 (see the map in the "Contact Us" section of this website). This is our third location within the City since our founding in 1972, as been our home since 1987. Our building is 30,000 square feet and includes offices, conference rooms, a cafeteria, a training room, and a bid room. We also have a 22,000 square foot high bay warehouse (with a 30 ton overhead crane) which we use for equipment & tool storage/distribution, and for offsite fabrication to serve our projects.

For the past fifteen years, multi-tenant residential construction has represented our largest single category of work. BSI has completed of 4,500 units and over six million square feet of multi-tenant residential construction in the metro area, primarily apartments and condominiums. BSI has successfully bridged the gap between residential and commercial construction to deliver for our clients the aggressive costs necessary for market rate construction along, with the quality assurance required to protect the owner's investment for the long haul.
