Services
Pipe Jacking
Pipe Jacking uses tunnel boring machines (TBMs) to install large-diameter pipes with precision. Hydraulic jacks push pipes through the ground behind a shield, ensuring accurate alignment. This method suits soft earth conditions above the water table, with installations below water handled via microtunneling. Pacific Borings fleet includes Akkerman TBMs ranging from 44-inch to 168-inch steel.
Tunneling
Tunneling creates man-sized passages using TBMs or excavator shields guided by lasers. Hydraulic rams advance the machine while crews install tunnel support systems like concrete segments or steel liners. Spoils are removed via electric locomotives. This method excels in long drives and soft earth conditions, with alternative methods used for underwater installations.
Auger Boring
Auger Boring installs steel casing using rotating cutting heads and hydraulic jacks. Spoils are removed via helical auger flights. This economical method works best in soft ground above the water table but can adapt to soft rock with specialized cutterheads. Pacific Borings fleet ranges from 24-inch to 72-inch machines.
Horizontal Directional Drilling
Horizontal Directional Drilling (HDD) installs small pipes and conduits by creating pilot bores reamed to required diameters. Pacific Borings Ditch Witch 2720 handles HDPE pipes up to 16-inch diameter. This method is ideal for economical, minimally invasive installations of utilities and cables.
Grouting
Grouting stabilizes soil and fills voids using techniques like annular space grouting, permeation, and chemical grouting. Low-density cellular grout prevents flotation concerns while filling tight spaces over long distances. This critical process ensures structural integrity and abandonment compliance in trenchless projects.
