Eric Sallee and Cliff Dowdy began the company in 1988. The picture above shows them beside the first of many homes built by Shelter Alternatives. We owe a great deal to their vision and hard work to create the company that now continues their legacy. In 2005, Ed Tuchler who joined the team as a carpenter on this first home in 1988, purchased Shelter Alternatives, Inc. The company continues to grow and serve residents throughout the New River Valley. In 2016, we renovated our office in downtown Blacksburg.
