This gate was made for a couple who live in Cedarburg, WI. Both are master gardeners, and fashioned a gorgeous terraced floral garden complete with limestone and fieldstone accents. This gate was made for a special garden enclosed within a fieldstone wall. Because of the great variety of flowering plants, a menagerie of interesting insects visits their gardens regularly, i.e. the hummingbird moth, walking stick, etc. Within the client's home, they have a large entomological collection consisting of butterflies, moths, beetles, and more.
The clients had visited the Captain Frederick Pabst Mansion (Milwaukee, WI), and upon seeing the elk antler chandelier in the grand foyer, they knew they wanted something similar for the dining hall in their lodge near Hayward, WI. Designed by the clients to reflect a 1930's east-coat hunting lodge, the interior is filled with nostalgia of the period, boasting numerous trophies of elk, black bear, bobcat, vintage furniture, and fabulous views of the surrounding forest from just about every room.
These clients commuted back and forth from their home in Chicago to Port Washington. As both are on Lake Michigan, I wanted to capture the essence of the great lake; reflections of wind and water. As there are three members in the family, that number is also reflected in the gate's elements. Though many gates are imposing, I wanted this gate to welcome visitors, as well as to frame the intrinsic beauty of their property. The gates open electronically with an underground gate opener.
