A 2005 aerial photograph showed the upper fields as having been planted with row crops. Rock wall surrounding these fields attest to the generations of farmers who removed tons of rocks from the land, but piles of trash around the woods attest to years of minimal effort to continue to improve the property. In the renovation, we uncovered a block of lead with tool marks, which could have been used to make shot for a mussel loader. Also, buried in the back yard was a tank that was filled with carbonic rock that when water was added produced a gas that was piped into the house for gas lighting.
