Solaris Farms is family owned and operated business specializing in hardy northern tier Paeonia, Hemerocallis, Lilium and a variety of other long lived perennial plants. The farm serves as a trial garden for selection of other hybridizer's plants, as well as, our own hybridizing efforts. Many of newly introduced, rare and high value peonies, daylilies, and lilies are field grown and propagated on site for gardeners looking for special additions to their gardens. Woody (tree) peonies and herbaceous hybrids are of special interest to us and these can be seen throughout our catalogs.
We grow our plants onsite (not resellers), allowing us to amass much information about durability and performance for northern gardeners. Our mission is to provide excellent northern tier plant material and at the same time provide education. Visit our culture and and care web pages for no nonsense growing information. During our open houses visitors are welcome to look through seedling fields, hybridizing areas and display gardens to get an idea of things to come (dreams). Set in a century-old Wisconsin farmstead, Solaris Farms specializes in hardy, field grown daylilies, peonies and lilies.
Solaris Farms has authored a number of growing guides and articles. These guides and articles are focused on the plants we grow in our Wisconsin climate and may be of value to northern tier gardeners. All Guides and Articles are for personal use and reproduction is prohibited without permission of the author-Nate Bremer. We no longer carry literature for sale concerning peonies, but recommend the following. A good selection of books can be ordered through the American Peony Society at very reasonable prices.
Through electronic media, never before have gardeners had so much information available. Unfortunately, many of our most visited sources are riddled with deceptive, inaccurate or false information concerning plants. Societies and expert groups remain the ‘go to' organizations for trusted information about our favorite plants and we recommend them to answer questions social media or mass marketing websites avoid or cannot. The following websites/organizations are known for their excellence and can provide a myriad of knowledge.
Solaris Farms grows most of the plants we offer in open field conditions, without special seasonal protection or care. We typically do not provide extra water, fertilizer or other growing enhancements for our plants. Conditions can be quite adverse in our fields, but the resulting trialed and selected plants are more likely to provide excellent subjects for northern tier gardens than greenhouse propagated cultivars. See below for specific information about our product sizes and characteristics at the time of shipping or farm purchase.
