Emu offers professional training, consulting services, and component/systems analysis for all aspects of the design and construction of high quality building envelopes and healthy indoor environments. We have extensive knowledge and experience in the international Passive House standard for building construction and performance. Mariana Pickering and Enrico Bonilauri initially formed "Emu Architetti" (Emu Architects) back in 2009, in Enrico's hometown of Cavriago, Italy. For seven years we practiced as an architecture studio focused mainly in sustainable residential design, with a few small commercial projects as well.

Starting with just a couple of projects in Cavriago, Italy in 2009, we have invested a lot of time and heart into our company. We are constantly challenging ourselves to learn about new building science, design + construction methods, and innovative products. We believe in the widely used maxim, 'think globally, act locally' an idea which we hope to bring to our practice through the study of international and local environmental and architectural conditions. As such, we have been able to grow our client base, our platform of knowledge, and our international experience.

Builders are hands-on learners. A textbook and slide deck only go so far. At Emu, we've spent years developing a proprietary instruction tool that allows our student builders to get their hands on the products and methods we discuss in class, with the support of research-backed advanced building science. Instead of the restrictive case study that one mockup or product demo can show, the pods are designed to integrate with the learning objectives in our brand-neutral course. We truly believe that if everyone interested in "preaching Passive" joined together to educate mainstream, we wouldn't have to compete for work and we'd expand the market for all of us who like to stay on the cutting edge of building science. Our advanced builder training courses and workshops would not be possible without the support and product donation of several Product Partners from the Passive House materials industry. Back in 2017, we initiated a cross-marketing collaboration agreement with a group of companies who expressed support for Emu's mission.
