Let's meet and talk about how you would like to use, improve, and add enjoyment and function to your yard, your home. Let us build you a relaxing outdoor room that gives you more privacy. Or add a couple custom pots at your front door that welcome, relax, and enliven your guests. Whether its a night by the fire playing guitar with friends, or a day at the beach, I love being outside! In a past life I worked in the tech world for LEGO. There I learned the core elements of designing for beauty, and functionality.

It is so nice out, I usually will grab lunch at Whole Foods in Darien, to go, sit outside and appreciate the gorgeous colors, too. I actually have a brother-in-law who will chop and chop and chop leaves throughout autumn. His lawn is lush and that is the only fertilizer he uses all year long. Use those finely chopped leaves early to boost the feeding of your grass, but within a couple of weeks when they start falling heavily, it is best to do a thorough leaf removal. Leaves left on your grass can smother it or, if wet, add fungus, which weakens it immediately and can kill it in the long run.

At Bren Landscaping & Masonry, our passion is helping you unlock the rich potential of your property through unique landscape design and maintenance. Landscapingis a timeless investment that can increase yourproperty value, increase your health, and even reduce your energy costs. Most importantly, good, sustainably minded landscape design looks good, smells good, is good for the environment, relaxes you so it is good for your family. We see time and again what works artistically and functionally, but also what plants are hardy or deer baitin one part of town, but not others.

Good landscaping maintenance is a combination of skill, experience, and good old fashioned common sense. Have you ever seen those guys that cut your lawn in the pouring rain? On occasion, a storm will catch anybody, but if they mow your lawn consistently when it rains, your lawn will suffer: skid marks, clumps of wet grass clippings, and so on. What about the guys that cut your lawn low — too low! Too low is a No No! For a more vibrant, healthier lawn, your lawn should be cut at no less than 3″.

This is why, when asked, we at Bren always recommend starting a new lawn with a good sod installation. A fresh layer of sod over a freshly tilled lawn will be the ultimate "offensive" (to speak in military terms, and when dealing with weeds we always like to speak in military terms.) to creating a beautiful, lush lawn instantly. A lawn that's free of weeds. Sod, or Turf, works like a patchwork quilt, a blanket made of many small squares of fabric. Each small individual piece of fabric is sewn (or sown) together, to create one large quilt.

A beautiful lawn begins at the roots, and is a result of good lawn care. Bren is your source for all your lawn care needs. From the initial planting, to ongoing care, we can assure you that your lawn will be beautiful, with this full line of Lawn Care Services. Whether its a night by the fire playing guitar with friends, or a day at the beach, I love being outside! In a past life I worked in the tech world for LEGO. There I learned the core elements of designing for beauty, and functionality. I bring that point of view to all my projects, including yours!

Hundreds of years ago, the great grasses of the Americas were cared for by the Bison who grazed upon them. They were the lawn aerators. While they grazed, the Bison's large hoofs were helping to break up dead organic material which had formed like a crust on the surface of the soil. This breaking up would allow water to filter down into the soil, and water and oxygen could reach the grasses roots, keeping them healthy and growing strong. This dead organic material will form that same crusty layer on top of your soil, eventually killing parts of your lawn and allowing weeds to crop up in it's place.
